Michael is one of Australia’s most respected business valuation professionals and is a non-executive director of SMART Valuations Pty Ltd.
Michael chair’s the SMART Valuations QA Committee.
He has been involved in business, securities and intangibles valuations for over 25 years, is the CEO (and founder) of a specialist business and securities valuation practice, a former partner of PwC’s valuation team, co-chair of the CPA Valuation Panel, a member of the ATO’s valuation panel, a member of the Tax Institute and of the Institute of Chartered Accountants’ Business Valuation Special Interest Group.
Michael is co-author of Business Valuations Digest and the author of numerous published articles on business valuation, expert reports, valuation litigation and the cost of capital. His published articles have been referenced by the NSW Public Accounts Committee and Deakin University’s MBA programme.
He has presented at over 50 conferences on valuation-related topics and he recently presented to over 1,000 CPA Australia members on the value of franking credits to investors in Australian companies.
He has been responsible for over 100 valuation matters for the ATO and the State Revenue Offices and has provided expert valuation reports and testimony in the Supreme Courts of Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales, the WA State Administrative Tribunal, Federal Court and Telecommunications Ombudsman’s Tribunal in relation to valuation matters.
Each year, Michael is responsible for over 60 valuations of equity interests worth in excess of $50bn for super funds and fund managers such as IFM, Colonial First State, Australian Super, QIC, Infrastructure Capital Group, Palisade Investments, Hastings, Plenary Group, Statewide Super, SunSuper and Access Capital Advisers.
Michael has been responsible for independent expert reports in regard to takeovers and schemes of arrangement in relation to Bega Cheese, Clemenger, Toro Energy, Curnamona Energy, Pilbara Minerals and Geothermal Resources.
As a business owner, investor and developer, Michael is intimately familiar with the valuation issues confronting small business owners in regard to tax, transactions, succession, fund-raising, disputes and shareholding arrangements.
